Amateur Takes Control
There has never been much mystery to Amateur Takes Control (ATC). From its origins as a solo project hatched in founder Adel Rashid's bedroom to its current status as five-piece instrumental rock outfit, the band's name has always been a transparent mission statement: an affirmation of independent DIY ethics and a call for the everyman to take the reins of their lives. The powerful emotion of Amateur Takes Control's music encapsulates the band's unwavering belief in progress and forward movement – a stance that has endured since ATC's inception a decade ago.
Their debut album You, Me and the Things Unsaid, released on KittyWu Records in 2008, is a landmark record in the short history of Singaporean post-rock. It gained them a following in both Singapore and Malaysia, landing opening slots for bands such as ENVY, LITE, +/- (Plus/Minus) and Bitch Magnet. Amateur Takes Control is officially back from a three-year hiatus and has enlisted Caracal guitarist Field Teo and drummer Martin Kong to write and record an EP of new material. Expect noisier, darker and more aggressive music coming from Amateur Takes Control in 2017.
